IF YOU DON’T HAVE A PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER, THEN YOU AREN’T SEEING THE WHOLE PICTURE

by Mr. Mean-Spirited

I’ll be honest with my readers – sometimes I get a little paranoid.  However, my mistrust always turns out for the best.

Although I diligently try to avoid other people, sometimes I have no choice but to venture into the city.   I can assure you that I always carry a weapon when I am around strangers - but no matter how well-armed I am in the metropolis, I keep glancing around me.   About a week ago, I first noticed a vehicle slowing as it approached me – I say
a vehicle” because any sort of corporate logo was removed from the sedan.  The automobile was not quite green, nor quite blue – but an indeterminate shade.  The passenger turned toward me and held up a cell phone as he passed.

I was not initially alarmed; I thought it was one of these odd things that often happen in a city.   A couple days later, I drove a couple hundred miles away to a somewhat smaller city.  What do you think I see?  The same sort of indistinctly-colored vehicle passing me on the opposite side of the street – with, this time, the driver pointing his cellphone at me.  What am I to make of all this?

There are evil forces menacing the individual, and this wickedness is always most apparent when you venture into an urban area.  This is not reality distortion – but a glimpse of genuine realism behind appearances.  No one else on the sidewalk was paying any attention to oddly-colored autos; paranoia allows a character to recognize patterns of surveillance that are not immediately apparent to the more conforming citizens.

Now, I would be the first to admit that there isn’t a damn thing special about me.  If any of my readers were ever to pay sufficient attention to their own societal environment, they might notice the same malign entities watching them.   You never see the world as clearly as when you are afraid.

Paranoia is a heightened awareness.  There is something wrong with a human being who is not suspicious of strangers.   Only a distrustful person is experiencing reality clearly.  If you do not take each social interaction “the wrong way,” then you will never understand what is truly going on.

A paranoid individual views the underlying motivations of other people as malevolent.  What if that perception of hidden maliciousness is a correct reading of the true nature of the world?  The totalitarian rulers of the world may well label the paranoid personality as “antisocial” – I would prefer to call the paranoid person as “accurate.”

  1. "You never see the world as clearly as when you are afraid". How true. And I would add: or when you are recently bereaved. By the way, dou you have a Concealed Carry Permit? Because in Spain it's impossible to obtain. Great post, as always.

    1. Yeah, I’ve got a concealed-carry permit – but keep in mind that regulations in each state are completely unique. However, there are even 8 states where any citizen can carry a concealed weapon without needing any documents whatsoever – and that number might well increase during the new administration.

  2. You are lucky in this respect. At least they don't treat you as little children. In Spain, the only weapon you can legally carry is a pepper spray. I sometimes carry a torch teaser, but of course the police can confiscate it and fine you at any time. The only permit allowed here is "sportive shooting", which means you only are authorized to shoot in a range.

    1. How could a population that went through a brutal civil war in the 1930’s then allow itself to be rendered completely defenseless a generation later?

  3. This is precisely the excuse given by all our liberal governments: let's take away the weapons from all civilians because Spaniards are prone to kill each other. This anti-gun propaganda has been long established and it's taken as a dogma. Unlike Switzerland or Finland, we are being suffocated by a never ending series of paternalistic and parasitic governments.

  4. Paranoia strikes deep/into your heart it will creep/it starts when you're always afraid/step out of line, the man come and take you away.

    - Buffalo Springfield, "For What It's Worth". Anybody here remember that 60's song, even if you first heard it as an oldie?

  5. Be careful of what you ingest when you are feeling depressed/paranoid/bereaved. A certain plant can amplify the sense of the real horror of life as a mortal human in a dangerous world of mostly shitty other humans...

    1. That is why I feel more comfortable if my spiritual experiences are distilled. All spirits of the aether and of the alcohol ought to be bottled and proofed.

    2. I've certainly made that mistake before! What a nightmare. That plant is generally not for types who are already naturally introspective.

    3. Indeed..mms is right. Alcohol to cloud the senses thanks. After suffering personal losses "that plant" made me know how it really feels to be paranoid. To believe that the police etc are not your friends and so on. A little is good as MMS says haha but a raging inferno of paranoia and heightened awareness of mortality and powerlessness not so! The right drug at the right time perhaps is the moral of the story. Now lets have a toast to 2016!

  6. I'm very sorry you feel that way

  7. Used to like that song a lot. Don't like things in general as much as I used to, but it's still a good one.

  8. Mr Mean, what do you make of the two incidents? These people were specifically following you? Or you just noticed the bastards unlike the blind sheep? Or was the entire tale just derived to make your point? Possibly you won't want to elaborate.

    1. Obviously there is nothing significant about me, so I am inclined to believe that, given close and calculated attention, every human being would notice such ominous surveillance in his own worthless existence. Most people, though, would rather not become aware of such menace. There are evil entities looming over each of us.

  9. Dude, in another article you talk about accepting fate but in this article you are expressing fear of your fate (if your fate is to be attacked by a stranger). Who cares, I say. Life is meaningless anyways, why worry, it does nothing towards the outcome. Bring it on, hopefully it won't be too painful and over quick.
